Green infrastructure technologies manage stormwater by mimicking natural processes that slow and absorb runoff. Below are links to resources that define green infrastructure concepts, design resources, and opportunities. Here is an introduction to the GSI Manual and Tools

The Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) Story Map explains what happens to stormwater after it falls from the sky, and why green stormwater infrastructure is an integral part of the cities of tomorrow. Features of the story map also include a watershed look-up map and a tour of highlighted GSI projects built by the City.

The Kansas City, Missouri Green Stormwater Infrastructure Manual (GSI Manual) covers how to implement green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) from the conceptual design phase, through detailed design, construction, initial establishment, and long-term maintenance. The GSI Manual takes a “design component” based approach, breaking GSI down to the features that work together to promote the overall stormwater and water quality function of the practice. The manual provides “how to use” instructions, design guidelines, detail templates, construction specifications, and maintenance activities for the GSI components.

Three of the City’s new green infrastructure sites are large enough to be used for appropriate events. Available sites are listed below. Permits are required to use the sites for events. If your organization is interested in using one or more of the three sites, please fill out a Park Event Request Form to apply for an event permit at https://kcparks.org/about-parks/permit-request-form/
Available sites are:
81st & Troost Green Infrastructure Site located at 8111 Troost Avenue in the Marlborough Neighborhood
I-670 Underpass Event Plaza located at 14th Street and Hickory in the West Bottoms
Liberty Green Space located at 1447 Liberty Street in the West Bottoms
Fill in “81st & Troost Green Infrastructure Site”, “I-670 Underpass Event Plaza”, OR “Liberty Green Space” in the “Location Requested” field on the Park Event Request Form (see highlighted examples below). Fill out the rest of the form for your event(s), and then click “Submit” at the bottom of the form. If you are requesting more than one location at the same time, it will be necessary to fill out two separate event request forms – one for each site location.
