Public Meeting #2: KC Water Potential Future Water Treatment Facility – POSTPONED
The public meeting for the South Resiliency Water Treatment Plant project originally scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026, is postponed until later this spring. The project team spent the last several months meeting with area stakeholders and recently received feedback requiring further coordination from our team before a larger public presentation.
We appreciate your patience as our team takes the necessary steps to consider each stakeholder’s input. If you have any questions, contact the project team by email at alex@parsonkc.com.
Public Meeting #1: Did you miss the initial public meeting?
KC Water held its first public meeting over the South Resiliency project on October 28, 2025. You can find the presentation from that meeting below.

Following the public meeting, a project survey was available until November 14, 2025. The survey is now closed.
Why Now?
KC Water currently has one water treatment facility, the Briarcliff Water Treatment Plant which serves clean drinking water to nearly 1 million people every day throughout the region.
- The facility is approximately 100 years old
- There are no reliable, large interconnections with other metro utilities
- Maintaining the old facilities requires expensive specialized contracts
- KCMO is one of the only cities its size with one water treatment facility
- The City needs a more resilient water supply system with improved water quality
- New treatment technologies are more robust for emerging contaminants
Project Benefits
A future treatment facility would enhance our infrastructure, ensuring a supply of reliable clean drinking water for all residences:
- More resilient water supply
- Extends the life of the Briarcliff Water Treatment plant by reducing its burden
- Public health, public safety, and economic impact
Funding
KC Water and the project team are focused on obtaining external funding to ease the burden on rate payers. Since 2010, the average residential water bill has increased by over 135%.
What’s the timeline?
KC Water held an open house in October 2025, for community members to learn more about potential sites for a future water treatment facility. The estimated land acquisition and construction timeline is 10-20 years.
