(Kansas City, Mo.) – On Tuesday, August 4th, KC Water Services partnered with the KC Public Library and the KC Star to host a discussion of the book “The Water Knife.” Set in the not too distant future, the book focuses on a United States that is running out of water.
Terry Leeds, KC Water Services Director, started the conversation with a brief overview of the department. Participants were very interested to know where Kansas City gets its water. They also asked about water rights, river traffic, and wholesale customers.
Twelve people, including KC Water Services staff, attended. The book’s author, Paolo Bacigalupi, joined the discussion via Skype. He talked about his research for the book, how he developed the story and his concerns about extreme drought.
The organizer of the event, Kaite Stover with KC Public Library, called the evening a big success.
