KC Water continues to investigate the cause of a street cave-in along Southwest Trafficway and will implement additional traffic closures Friday morning to support excavation work and ensure public safety.

As of Friday, August 28, department crews initiated a full closure of all southbound lanes on Southwest Trafficway, and one northbound lane between 29th Street and Interstate 35. The northbound lane closure may be adjusted depending on repair progress and on-site safety conditions.

Due to ongoing repairs crews will need until Wednesday (9/2) to complete this work. The roadway will remain closed until KC Water can restore the impacted area for drivers to travel safely on Southwest Trafficway.

KC Water is urging the public to avoid the area and use alternate routes. Drivers should expect significant delays and are asked to follow all posted traffic control devices.
