(Kansas City, Mo.) – Finish cleaning out your garage now. KC Water’s Household Hazardous Waste facility at 4707 Deramus Avenue is about to close for two weeks.
“It’s the end of year closure. We do the maintenance work and we clean out the facility of all waste so we can get a final number of the year,” says KC Water Environmental Manager Rob Fort.
The last day for drop-offs will be accepted Saturday, December 15th. Until then, Kansas City residents and those who live in 32 other participating communities can drop off paint, light bulbs, motor oil and other items for free on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Wednesdays are set aside for loads larger than 600 pounds and an appointment is necessary.
“That weight limit is because a normal household averages 150 pounds and we’ve been getting anywhere from 600 to 1000 pound loads,” said Fort.
In 2017, customers dropped off 1.6 million pounds of products which was an 11% increase over 2016.
