KC Water Wastewater Treatment Plant Loses Electrical Power During Thunderstorms

Posted on July 10, 2019

(Kansas City, Mo.) – The Blue River Wastewater Treatment Plant experienced a power outage Wednesday morning which affected plant operations.

The severe weather that hit Kansas City Wednesday affected the power grid in the area of Front and Hawthorne Streets shortly after 9:00 a.m. This caused the treatment plant to lose power to multiple electrical feeds leading into the facilities.  Power was fully restored at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.  During that time an estimated 40 million gallons of highly diluted wastewater and stormwater entered the Blue River.
