(Kansas City, Mo.) – Today KC Water Services released an annual report entitled “2015 Water Quality Report: Delivering High Quality Water To Your Tap.” The report, which can be found online at www.kcwaterservices.org/wqr2015, provides an easy-to-understand overview of Kansas City’s high-quality and great-tasting drinking water.
“We often take for granted life’s most precious resource and the lifeblood of our community – safe and reliable drinking water. This week is National Drinking Water Week, and it’s the perfect time to celebrate Kansas City’s high-quality and great-tasting tap water,” said Terry Leeds, KC Water Services’ Director. “We’re committed to providing Kansas City with the best drinking water in the nation, now, and for generations to come.”
While the 2,800 miles of pipeline that delivers safe and reliable drinking water right to Kansas Citians’ taps is often overlooked, it is an intricate system that KC Water Services has operated for more than 125 years. KC Water Services proudly serves more than 460,000 Kansas City residents and 32 wholesale customers in the greater Kansas City area. KC Water Services treats an average of 109 million gallons of drinking water per day and collects and tests more than 1,700 water samples each month. Kansas City’s drinking water is tested for over 290 contaminants, above and beyond what is required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
“Kansas City’s tap water is the affordable, safe, eco-friendly, and local choice,” added Leeds. “For our customers, a penny buys the equivalent of 11, 16.9 oz. (1/2 liter) bottles of water. Just think how much a person can save by filling up from the tap instead of buying expensive bottled water!”
