KC Water Celebrates Drinking Water Week

Posted on May 2, 2016

(Kansas City, Mo.) – KC Water, the American Water Works Association, and water professionals across North America kicked off Drinking Water Week today by highlighting the theme “Your Water – To Know It Is To Love It.”

“Quality drinking water is essential to the health and well-being of Kansas City and the region,” said KC Water Director Terry Leeds. “The work our employees do each day ensures that the water delivered to our customers is of the best possible quality. We’re committed to providing the best drinking water in the nation, now, and for generations to come.”

KC Water maintains 2,800 miles of pipeline that deliver safe and reliable drinking water to more than 170,000 residential and commercial customers, and 32 wholesale customers in the greater Kansas City area. In addition, Kansas City’s water is regularly tested for over 290 constituents, which is above and beyond the number required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

To commemorate the week, KC Water will release the annual water quality report and will be in the community sharing reusable water bottles. The Kansas City Library will feature a water-themed display of books and educational materials. And, City Hall will issue a proclamation declaring this week Drinking Water Week.

“AWWA and the water community have joined together for several decades to celebrate an important event in our industry, and that’s Drinking Water Week,” said AWWA Chief Executive Officer David LaFrance. “We look forward to Drinking Water Week each year to assist consumers in understanding and appreciating their local water supply and water utility.”
