KC Water Asked Local Businesses & Organizations to “Imagine a Day Without Water”

Posted on October 8, 2015

(Kansas City, Mo.) – Starting the day with a fresh cup of coffee, to visiting the KC Zoo, followed up by meeting friends for happy hour, none of that would be possible without water.

This week, KC Water participated in the national advocacy and educational event, Imagine a Day Without Water. Across the country, organizations, elected officials, corporations, and environmental advocates worked together to educate people about how water is essential, the challenges facing water and wastewater systems, and the need for investment. Many people take water service for granted. Clean, safe, reliable, and affordable water comes out of the tap and flows down the drain without a second thought. But, the massive infrastructure, much of it underground, which brings water to homes and businesses, takes it away, and treats it, is aging.

KC Water asked local businesses and organizations how they rely upon water in their daily operations, and to “imagine a day without water.” For example, the local production of coffee, beer, wine, whiskey, vodka, and gin all rely upon water. And, the animals at the KC Zoo, the pets in local shelters, and Kansas City’s parks and golf courses all rely upon water. KC Water had the opportunity to visit with the following individuals (videos are available at the following links):

“Safe and reliable drinking water is an essential part of a healthy community and a resource we often take for granted,” said KC Water Director Terry Leeds. “As local businesses and organizations point out in these video interviews, many of their products and services wouldn’t be possible without the availability of water. This week is an important time to remember the vital role water plays in our daily lives.”
